Sprightly and elegant, the Lady Palm is prized for her emerald green foliage and distinctly poised nature. With fan-shaped leaves sprouting from tight, woody stems, the Lady Palm is a unique addition to any space she adorns.
The Lady Palm is a fairly tropical easy-to-maintain houseplant. Its main enemy is dry air. Remember to spray its foliage as often as possible. Choose moderate watering. Keep the substrate slightly moist between waterings. Beware, however, of excess water and draughts.
The Lady Palm is a slow-growing plant. It can be repotted every 3 years or so. In the meantime, especially for larger specimens, plan to resurface the plant every year, replacing some of the soil on the surface.
The Lady Palm, aka Rhapis Excelsa, prefers moderate sunlight, without direct sun. Choose a shady spot away from draughts.
Indoors, in an excessively dry atmosphere, the Lady Palm aka Rhapis Excelsa may suffer attacks from red spider mites or, more rarely, mealybugs. Inspect its foliage regularly for the presence of these insects. In this case, remove the pests with Super Neem Oil solution and a soft cloth, and spray the foliage more often to increase atmospheric humidity.
However, its main enemy indoors is dry air. Remember to spray it daily. If you notice that the lower leaves are parched, this is generally natural throughout the growth of this palm. Simply remove the leaves by cutting them off flush with the stipe.
The Lady Palm aka Rhapis Excelsa is listed as an air-purifying plant with a depolluting action. It helps eliminate xylene, formaldehyde and ammonia from glues, solvents, paints, furniture, carpets and household products, while converting carbon dioxide into oxygen.
The Lady Palm aka Rhapis Excelsa is considered as non-toxic. This houseplant is safe for pets and children.
In its natural habitat, the Lady Palm, also known as Rhapis Excelsa, produces small flowers in cream to pinkish panicles. However, it's highly unlikely that you'll see your Bamboo Palm bloom in your climate or indoors.
This small, slow-growing Asian palm can reach 4 meters in height outdoors. Indoors, it very rarely exceeds 1m80.
